TL;DR: We have released our own IDE plugin dedicated to learning on Hyperskill. It is now the standard way to learn on the platform. You can still keep and update the JetBrains Academy plugin for its separate learning content. To continue learning, simply install the new plugin, sign in, and keep going. Your progress remains intact.
To install the new plugin:
- Open your IDE.
- Update the JetBrains Academy plugin to the latest version (if you have).
- On the Welcome screen, open the Plugins section.
- Switch to the Marketplace tab and search for Hyperskill Academy.
- Click Install.
- Wait for the installation to complete and restart the IDE.
After restarting the IDE, you will find the Hyperskill Academy section on the Welcome screen. Select it and then click Log in to Hyperskill.
What’s changing
- We've launched our own plugin that connects your IDE with Hyperskill and is focused exclusively on learning on Hyperskill.
- For Hyperskill study tasks and projects, our plugin becomes the standard. You may keep and update the JetBrains Academy plugin to use its own learning content separately.
- With our own plugin, we can ship updates faster, roll out dedicated features, and fix issues more quickly.
When this happens
- The plugin is now available for download on the marketplace.
How we’ll notify you
- Email: we’ll send announcement and reminder emails with installation steps.
- In‑platform banners: you’ll see a banner with a direct install button.
- Social media: we’ll post the update on our official accounts.
- Inside the plugin: we’ll show in‑plugin messages with guidance once the release is live.
What you need to do
- Update the JetBrains Academy plugin to the latest version (if you have)
- Install the new "Hyperskill" plugin in your IDE (from the IDE’s Marketplace).
- Restart your IDE.
- Log in with your Hyperskill account in the plugin (you will find the Hyperskill Academy section on the Welcome screen. Select it and then click Log in to Hyperskill).
- Open your project or problem and continue learning as usual.
No manual migration is needed. Your progress and access live on Hyperskill and will appear after you sign in.
FAQ
Do I have to uninstall JetBrains Academy?
No. You can keep and update the JetBrains Academy plugin to continue using JetBrains Academy learning content. For Hyperskill tasks and projects, use our new plugin.
Will my progress be preserved?
Yes. Your learning progress is stored on Hyperskill and appears after you sign in with the new plugin.
Will this affect my IDE settings?
No. Your IDE preferences (themes, fonts, keymaps, 3rd‑party plugins) won’t change. Our plugin works on top of your current setup.
Do I need to update the old plugin?
Yes. It's better to update JetBrains Academy plugin as usual. This will allow both plugins to work without issues.
I don’t see the new plugin in the Marketplace — what should I do?
- Refresh the Marketplace list and restart the IDE.
- Check your internet connection and Marketplace access.
- Use the direct install link from the notification (we’ll add it on release day).
I can’t sign in to the plugin
- Verify your Hyperskill email and password (or SSO provider, if applicable).
- Try signing out/in again or restart the IDE.
- Clear the IDE plugin cache and retry.
- If the issue persists, contact support (see below).
Which IDEs can I use?
Use the JetBrains IDE that matches your language (for example, PyCharm for Python, IntelliJ IDEA for Java/Kotlin, WebStorm for JavaScript, GoLand for Go). Educational features are available from the Learn tab on the Welcome screen; the new Hyperskill plugin will integrate with them. (We’ll publish a compatibility table on release day.)
Can I get an educational JetBrains IDE license?
Yes, learners with an active Premium Hyperskill subscription for more than one month obtain a free All Products Pack. Also, if you are a student, you can get a free educational license at https://www.jetbrains.com/academy/student-pack/.
Will there be new features?
Yes. Our plugin unlocks faster iteration on features such as improved task hints, diagnostics, better project sync, and more. We’ll announce highlights in the release notes.
